BICSI Continuing Education and
Recertification Policies

Supporting ICT professionals with clarity, flexibility, and high standards

To better serve credential holders, providers, and event organizers, BICSI has restructured our continuing education credit (CEC) policies.

What once was a single CEC Policy is now three dedicated policies:

  • Recertification Policy – For credential holders maintaining their BICSI certification.
  • CEC Provider Policy – For organizations offering BICSI-recognized training.
  • CEC Event Policy – For BICSI conferences, affiliate events, and endorsed events.

This change ensures consistency, quality, and transparency while giving professionals and partners more flexibility in how they earn and deliver CECs.

CEC Provider Program Clarification

Updated November 2025

BICSI is aware of questions circulating regarding the Continuing Education Credit (CEC) Provider Program. To ensure accuracy, the following clarification is provided.

BICSI has not changed the CEC Provider Program Policy. The requirements for course recognition remains the same: providers must submit complete applications and supporting materials sufficient to evaluate course quality, technical accuracy, and alignment with current codes and standards. Courses may not be marketed as eligible for BICSI CECs until formal recognition for the course is issued.

The September 2025 policy update did not introduce new requirements. It consolidated existing language and reaffirmed BICSI’s commitment to apply the same standards consistently across all providers. Free and low-cost education remains an important part of the continuing education ecosystem. Providers may continue to offer free webinars and courses, provided they meet the established criteria for content quality and documentation.

BICSI’s goal is to maintain a fair, transparent, and reliable process that protects the integrity of the BICSI credential and the value of every earned CEC. For questions, please contact CECProviderApp@bicsi.org.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Has BICSI changed the CEC Provider Policy?

No. The policy and requirements have not changed. Providers must continue to submit complete applications and materials for review and receive recognition before advertising a course as eligible for CECs.
  • Can providers still offer free webinars or free courses?

Yes. Free educational offerings remain eligible for CECs if they meet the same quality and documentation standards as all other submissions.
  • What was the purpose of the September 2025 update?

The update clarified language and confirmed that the same requirements apply to all providers. It did not add new obligations.
  • Why might a provider experience longer review timelines?

Applications that lack sufficient supporting materials (e.g., presentation slides, objectives, or assessments) require additional time for review. Submitting a complete package helps ensure timely recognition for their courses. An Expedited Review option remains available when timelines are tight.
  • Where can credential holders find CEC options?

BICSI lists more than 590 approved courses, including over 450 free offerings. In addition, the BICSI ICT Direct virtual, on-demand event in March provides 12 CECs and one conference credit, and credential holders receive a 90-day grace period after expiration with no penalty fees. Pre-approved courses can also be found by searching the catalogue here.
  • What is BICSI’s goal in enforcing provider standards?

To ensure fairness, consistency, and credibility across all continuing education activities so that credential holders and employers can trust the value of every BICSI CEC. Course materials are required to ensure content is aligned with BICSI regulations.
